The New Unity congregation understands itself as a people concerned not only with their own spiritual development, but also with the creation of a more just environment for all. Over the past few months we have held a series of forums in which the congregation has discussed which specific issues we should focus on in our social justice efforts. A range of issues has been discussed, from the reform of UK asylum laws to the withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan. However, the issue that drew the most interest and the most passionate reactions was the debate surrounding the liberalisation of laws on assisted suicide. In the the coming weeks the congregation will explore this issue more fully, leading to the formulation of a congregational position. Keep visiting this page for updates of this process and for details of future social justice forums. Find more information on the issue of assisted suicide here.
