Tenebrae is a traditional Christian Good Friday service that encourages each person to enter into the tragedy of Jesus' death. Tenebrae is preparation for the joyous rebirth of hope that is Easter Our Unitarian adaptation of Tenebrae focuses more broadly - beyond the Christian tradition and the crucifixion. At this service, we recognize the reality of the evil and suffering that continue to take place in our world. Where we usually seek to balance joy and sorrow, Tenebrae is a time to take an unflinching look at sorrow and to remove the blinders that sometimes keep us from fully recognizing the scope of suffering in our world.
